Earlier this year, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) released a report suggesting that many home buyers spend more time looking for a TV than shopping around for the right mortgage. In an attempt to make the mortgage process easier to understand, the agency has released the “Your Home Loan Toolkit” in English and now en Español. The consumer guide is designed to replace the current Settlement Cost booklet when the TILA-RESPA Integrated Disclosures rule (TRID) goes into effect on October 3.

Approximately 41 million native Spanish speakers live in the United States today, according to a report published in July by the Instituto Cervantes research center. This makes America the fourth largest Spanish-speaking nation behind Spain at 46 million, Columbia at 48 million and Mexico at 121 million. If you add children under five and those who speak some Spanish, the total rises to 52 million, making the U.S. the world’s second largest Spanish-speaking nation.
