Recently, a group of Castle & Cooke Mortgage employees – including members of the Executive Team – had the opportunity to volunteer with Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity on a building project called “Field of Dreams”. Under the watchful instruction of Habitat for Humanity Project Coordinator, Brandan Critchley, CCM’s band of volunteers spent the day hammering, nailing, measuring and constructing one of twenty homes that will populate this new development in Kearns, Utah.
In addition to providing affordable homes for deserving and needful families, the Field of Dreams project will also be comprised of energy-efficient units. “This is a completely different way of building a house as far as energy consumption and affordable housing goes,” explained Critchley, “The energy consumption, or utility bills of gas, power and water, will only be around $45.00 a month.”
The projected savings on utilities will certainly have a lasting impact on the residents of the community, and is right in line with Habitat for Humanity’s mission of making quality housing “a matter of conscience and action.” It also lines up with Castle & Cooke Mortgage’s goal of helping families get into homes that fit their particular needs.
“It feels good to be out here working as a team on something that is in line with our mission to help qualified customers achieve happiness as they find a home to live in and raise their families,” expressed Jeff Norton, Director of Human Resources for Castle & Cooke Mortgage. “This is a perfect way to tie us from the corporate world into the community.”
Finding ways to improve the community where Castle & Cooke Mortgage employees work and live is at the forefront of CCM’s company culture. It is a message that begins at the highest levels of management, and one that President and COO, Adam Thorpe, hopes will resonate from the top down.
“First and foremost, we are all very blessed and fortunate to be in the position where we can give back, even if that’s just by donating a little of our time,” stated Thorpe. “It’s great to see everyone working together, and it has been a fantastic opportunity for us to not only build quality and affordable homes for deserving families, but also deeper and more meaningful relationships with each other.”
